Commodore's Office,

HONG KONG.

28th January 1930.

Dear Sutherland,

I was very interested in the most

ingenious invention which you brought to my office

last week. I see great possibilities for it as a

means of informing passing ships that some emergency

has occurred, which cannot be signalled in the usual

manner, i.e., that pirates have seized the ship.

It is important that the apparatus should

be recognised as a life-saving appliance and that the

Board of Trade officers should treat it as such. I

suggest therefore, that on your arrival in London,

you seek an interview with that department and lay your

proposals before them.

Wishing you success in your endeavour.

Yours sincerely,

(Sgd)

R. HILL.

Commodore.

CHAIRMAN,

ANTI-PIRACY COMMITTEE.
